- Title
Mitochondrial Involvement in Skeletal Muscle Insulin Resistance.
- Authors
Toledo, Frederico G. S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the study "Mitochondrial Respiratory Capacity and Content Are Normal in Young Insulin-Resistant Obese Humans," by E. J. Anderson, M. E. Lustig, K. E. Boyle and colleagues, published within the issue. Findings demonstrate that lower oxidative capacity is not a requirement for the early phase of development of insulin resistance. The possibility that mitochondrial capacity might synergistically contribute to reducing insulin sensitivity is noted.
