Mexico is Suing US Gun-makers for Arming its Gangs and a US Court Could Award Billions in Damages.

- Abstract
The government of Mexico is suing several U.S. gun-makers for their role in facilitating cross-border gun trafficking and contributing to violent crime in Mexico. The lawsuit seeks $10 billion in damages and a court order to change the way these companies do business. A federal appeals court in Boston has allowed the lawsuit to proceed, potentially setting a precedent for future cases against the gun industry. The gun-makers argue that they should not be held responsible for the criminal activity of others and have asked for the case to be put on hold while they appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. If Mexico wins, it could have significant financial implications for the gun industry and could lead to changes in how they operate.
