- Abstract
This article, published in the Florida Field Naturalist, discusses the rare phenomenon of nest reuse by the Florida Scrub-Jay in Ocala National Forest. Most passerine birds do not reuse nests, but the Florida Scrub-Jay typically constructs a new nest with each breeding attempt. However, in this study, researchers observed a Florida Scrub-Jay reusing a nest within the same breeding season, which is extremely rare. The reasons for this behavior are not fully understood, but limited nesting sites and seasonal pressures may play a role. This observation provides valuable insights into the nesting behavior of this species.
