- Abstract
The article presents a speech by A. Javier Treviño, President of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, at the organization's 61st Annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 20, 2011. It proposes the adoption of a service-centered ethos of sociology. According to the author, the goal of this practice should be to assist communities in solving their own problems. Details on the roles of compassion, caution, and efficiency in the practice sociology are also presented.
