- Title
Researchers develop alternatives to methyl bromide fumigation.
- Authors
Meadows, Robin
- Abstract
The article focuses on the initiative of the University of California and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to come up with programs that test methyl bromide (MB) alternatives for important western crops. According to plant pathologist Greg Browne, the programs must be economical feasible and must promote development of non-fumigant strategies for managing soilborne pests. Weed specialist Brad Hanson adds that finding alternatives to MB is a challenge since MB sterilizes well with soil.
