- Abstract
Ophthalmological examination of the infant in the practice of the family doctor is often a synthesis of a diversity of risk factors that must be assessed, the specific examination by age groups, and especially important, the correct decisions regarding the referral of the infant for examination by the ophthalmologist pediatrician. The newborn sees at birth but the vision is not focused, it develops gradually in the first months of life, reaching maturity around the age of 5. In our paper we aim to present the stages of the child's vision development in the first year of life, the examinations available in the family doctor's office, the main pathologies encountered, and their management.
