The article offers information on religious establishments in Virginia followed by the third U.S. President Thomas Jefferson's famous statute for establishing religious freedom in 1786. Topics include when colony declared independence; dissenters' role in the process of disestablishment of religion from 1776 to 1833 as dissenters were allies in rejecting a strict separation of church and state according to the investigation made by the scholars.
