A poetry criticism is presented which explores themes of sociality in 19th century pornographic ballads, first published in the underground periodical "The Pearl" between 1879 and 1880. Ballads considered include “Expostulation with a Fierce Preacher," “Pleasures of Memory,” and “The Origin Species."
