- Abstract
A critique is presented of the poems "Old Furniture" and "The Minute Before Meeting" by English poet Thomas Hardy, focusing on his depiction of touch, vision, and phenomenology. Philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty is cited, and 19th century philosophy, apprehension, and God in poetry are discussed. Themes of solitude, the self, and nostalgia in the poems are also discussed.
