- Abstract
The article discusses the use of universal design (UD), or the premise that all people should be able to use a facility to the fullest extent, in education through the universal design for learning (UDL) framework. It comments on the application of UD principles to curricula in U.S. preschool, which encompasses the ideas of providing multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement. It comments on the need for preschool teachers to develop curricula that engage and challenge all learners and abilities. It provides suggestions for scaffolding classroom activities, selecting materials that align with UD principles, and incorporating relevant technology.
