- Abstract
The article critiques the comic portrayal of an Ottoman sultan in Ben Jonson's comedy "Epicene." Topics discussed include observations on the Islamic representation of the character named Morose, the symbolism and use of the turban to identify Muslim characters in a performance, and the themes addressed in the play such as virility, humiliation, and sodomy.
