- Abstract
The article explores the possible meaning of the use of the medieval French word "haterell" in the pageant "Trial Before Herod," one of the York Corpus Christi Cycle plays. Topics discussed include the biblical references of the pageant which involves Jesus Christ, King Herod, and Roman governor Pontius Pilate, the attire of Christ in the play according to translations by authors Clifford Davidson and Lucy Toulmin Smith, and the significance of the blindfold placed on Christ in the pageant.
