- Abstract
This article addresses the question of the epistemic status of the concept of revelation. How do the claims to a relevant event and hermeneutical appropriation, but also its religious community tradition, relate to each other? Epistemologically, these aspects cannot be separated, neither in historical nor in theological terms. Religious claims to revelation occur as communicative acts whose meaning can only be achieved in communities of faith and which take on their binding canonical form there. In this respect, revelations are interpretations. The reality content of what is determined as revelation receives its specific signature through the performative power of the revealed.
