- Abstract
The study included a total of 30 affected ewes and 10 control ewes to compare the efficacy of different therapeutic agents in the treatment of Sub-Clinical Ketosis (SCK). Pregnant ewes in their last 4-6 weeks of gestation were subjected to blood β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) estimation and diagnosed for SCK based on the blood BHBA level between the range of 0.8 to 1.6 mmol/L and categorized randomly into 3 groups and the same was subjected to different therapeutic regimens viz, Propylene glycol, Ketoroak and Cracked corn. Ewes with blood BHBA levels less than 0.8 mmol/L were categorized into a negative group. Although different treatment regimes employed in the present study yielded improvement in various physiological and biochemical parameters, however, the feeding of cracked corn with good quality hay resulted in better recovery among the affected pregnant ewes.
