- Abstract
An experiment was conducted to observe the “Influence of Dietary supplementation of Mentha leaf powder (Mentha piperata) and Vitamin C (Ascarbic acid) on performance of caged broilers”. Eighty one (81) Day old broiler chicks were procured and randomly divided into nine dietary treatment groups having nine birds in each group. Chicks of each group were than further divided into three sub–groups of three chicks in each to serve as replicates. These chicks were housed in battery type cages to provide recommended floor space of 0.75ft. / broiler in cage. Chicks were provided with self prepared standard broiler Starter and broiler Finisher ration with dietary supplementation of mentha leaf powder and vitamin C. Tr eatments-T0 (Feed without supplementation of Mentha & Vitamin C), T1 (2.5g Powder of Mentha/kg feed), T2 (5g Powder of Mentha/kg feed), T3 (250 mg Powder of Vitamin C/kg feed), T4 (500 mg Powder of Vitamin C/kg feed), T5 (2.5g Powder of Mentha + 250 mg Powder of Vitamin C/kg feed), T6 (2.5g Powder of Mentha + 500 mg Powder of Vitamin C/kg feed), T7 (5g Powder of Mentha +250 mg Powder of vitamin C/kg feed), T8 (5g Powder of Menthe + 500 mg Powder of Vitamin C/kg feed). The data were regularly recorded for weekly. Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, SHUATS, Prayagraj various data on body weight, gain in weight, feed intake, and feed efficiency & FCR of broilers from day old to five weeks of age were recorded, tabulated and statistically analyzed. The results indicated significant effect of 2.5g Mentha and 250 mg Vitamin C on body weight, gain in weight and feed efficiency of caged broilers. Based on rating of different treatments T5 was found as most effective treatment for
