- Abstract
The urgency for protecting sharks was recently highlighted after reports of endangered shark fishing and commercialization in the Gulf of California (Madigan et al., 2021) and in the Mediterranean Sea (Milazzo et al., 2021). In particular, MPAs should dedicate a strong and continuous effort to create long-term, strict, and constructive relationships with local fishers, as well as with any other stakeholder category, which could contribute to significantly maximize the overall conservation outcomes of MPAs.
