- Title
Re/Presenting Self & Other: Trans Deliverance in Caribbean Texts.
- Authors
King, Rosamond S.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the literary representation of Caribbean transgenders. In the Caribbean, the history of the term remains debatable for its application due to the influential historical derogatory definitions set by North Americans and Europeans to Caribbeaness, and specially Caribbean genders and sexualities. It provides analytical discussion of several novels regarding the representation and deliverance of transgenders including "The Pagoda," by Patricia Powell and "Cereus Blooms at Night," by Shani Mootoo. It also mentions that in Caribbean countries, social acceptance matters more and recreating oneself proves to become greater practical problem due to the modesty of the country.
