- Title
NETWORK BROADCASTING -- THE REPORT OF THE FCC NETWORK STUDY STAFF.
- Authors
BARROW, ROSCOE L.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the findings and recommendations in a study by the Network Study staff of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC initiated the study of television network broadcasting in 1955. The report has accepted the network system as a necessary and highly desirable component of the American broadcasting system. The report has found that there are respects in which the networks' concentration of control and practices have been incompatible with the public interest. The report has recommended that the self-regulating value of publicity as to affiliation practices, rates and compensation be relied upon to the greatest extent possible.
