- Authors
NEWCOMB, ROBINSON; KYLE, H. C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the aspects of free economy in the U.S. housing industry. It states that the crisis of housing shortage in the U.S. has been caused by the fluctuations in the housing construction in the U.S. during recent years. It presents a statistical study of housing demand on the U.S. construction industry and market potential of the industry under various alternative assumptions of income and price levels. Several charts are presented, including one depicting indexes of non-farm housing construction alongwith durable goods production during 1920-1939, one depicting estimated demand for dwelling units in 1945-1960, and one listing number of residential units constructed during 1930-1934.
