- Abstract
In this study, I reflect on the possible links between the postmodern historical novel and the collective memory in the context of Giuseppe Lupo's novel L'ultima sposa di Palmira along the theories of Iser, Ricoeur, and Nora. In the novel, the author recalls the 1980 earthquake in Irpinia, but his work does much more than commemorating: through the relationship between reality and magic, present and past, Lupo shows how a destroyed city and its deceased inhabitants can be rescued from oblivion through the power of narrative.
