- Abstract
The article presents an overview of the science behind surgical quality assessment and the quality improvement in day-to-day surgical practice. It discusses the three approaches to quality measurement in data for monitoring surgical quality including performance audit, administrative datasets, and risk-adjusted individual case-based data. The author concludes that surgeons has continued to be leaders in the scientific process to assess and improve quality of care.
