- Abstract
The article discusses the use of young adult literature about Muslim cultures and experiential learning activities to help students understand differences between people and to embrace multicultural education. The application of critical race theory to teaching multiculturalism and the two experiential learning strategies of Socratic seminar and process drama are discussed. A bibliography of books that describe Muslim cultures is presented. The books, "The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf" by Mohja Kahf and "Does My Head Look Big in This?" by Randa Abdel-Fattah, are used in the active learning strategies. Other books discussed include "The Story of My Life: An Afghan Girl on the Other Side of the Sky" by Farah Ahmedi and "Under the Persimmon Tree" by Suzanne Fisher Staples.
