- Abstract
This study examines the transcriptional responses of major antioxidant enzymes (AOE) genes to short-term starvation in rockbeam Oplegnathus fasciatus. Five-month-old juvenile rockbeam were randomly allocated into tanks with constant aeration. Commercial pellets were used to fed the fishes three times a day. The control group was continued being fed ad libitum. The results show that AOE expression during starvation could be detected at the mRNA level as early as after four days of starvation, and suggests that the transcription of AOE genes might be used as an early biomarker for starvation in the species.
