- Abstract
The article reports on the decline of defined benefit pension plans, particularly at General Motors Corporation. Defined contribution plans and 401(k)s are emerging as more popular plans for companies. Hugh Bromma of Entrust Corporation is quoted and expresses his opinion that more than half of defined benefit plans will be eliminated in the next ten years. The overall changes in the retirement planning for Americans is expressed. Fewer people save enough and the country is moving away from extensive retirement benefits in cost reduction efforts.
