- Abstract
The 11th conference of the conference network Discourse - Interdisciplinary took place in Mannheim and dealt with the question of how corpus-based discourse analyses can benefit from other types of data and methods. Various presentations were given, introducing different methods and approaches to discourse analysis. Topics included the significance of discourse in relation to human and artificial intentionality, the analysis of narratives in media discourse, and the methodological challenges in analyzing product packaging. The conference also offered an interdisciplinary perspective from social and cultural anthropology, emphasizing the relevance of individual experiences and involvement in the research process. On the second day, young researchers presented their projects, which introduced various approaches to combining qualitative and quantitative methods in discourse linguistics. Topics such as the analysis of gender binaries, the discourse surrounding queer-Christian identity concepts, the analysis of anti-Semitic communication in social media, the experiences of people during the Yugoslav wars, and the verbalization of music in music reviews were addressed. The conference demonstrated the interdisciplinary potential of discourse linguistics and emphasized the need for further developments and explorations in this field.
