- Title
Scheitern und Verstehen?: Zum »Forgotten Kind of Writing«-Ansatz der Erforschung philosophischer Rhetorik.
- Authors
Welsch, Martin
- Abstract
The article discusses Leo Strauss' approach to philosophical rhetoric and argues that the understanding of philosophical writing by authors who wrote under political persecution and censorship is being lost. It is suggested to modify the approach in order to better exploit the potential of philosophical rhetoric. The article emphasizes the importance of a rhetoric of philosophical friendship and a rhetoric of failure and understanding. The role of experience in philosophical text rhetoric is also discussed. The article introduces the "Forgotten Kind of Writing" approach, in which the author and reader are supposed to establish an emotional connection. The question is raised whether philosophy is even possible outside of this communication space and without complete trust between philosophers.
