- Abstract
The article discusses the testing of several reagents as future pre-treatments to hydrogen peroxide bleaching of discoloured paper to minimize the degrading effects of hydrogen peroxide on cellulose. Two historic rag papers with high and low levels of iron ion content underwent the test protocol of rinsing all samples in deionized water for ten minutes. Samples underwent different bleaching pre-treatment including deacidification with calcium hydroxide solution at pH 9.
