- Abstract
The article examines the ascent of textiles in contemporary art in Australia. Topics include an argument that the cloth's implication in human experience has made it a rich field for artists and curators, the incorporation of textiles in artist Julia Gutman's work "Head in the Sky, Feet on the Ground," artists' use of labour-intensive analogue practices associated with textiles as an antidote to screen-based cultures and First Nations collectives featured in Biennale of Sydney exhibition.
