- Abstract
The article discusses a research study on Siphonaria species from the Karachi Coast of North Arabian Sea as to the basic chemical composition and presence of oxygen transport protein hemocyanin. Collected were specimens of Siphonaria species including S. ashgar, S. belcheri and S. kurracheensis from different tidal heights for estimating protein by colorimetric method, total lipids by Sulphovanillin method and carbohydrates by Phenol-Sulphuric acid. Results showed highest protein concentrations in S. belcheri, highest tissue lipids concentration in S. kurracheensis and highest carbohydrate content on S. ashgar. Conclusions indicated that fragmentation patterns of hemocyanin are different in three Siphonaria species.
