- Title
Faith Envy: Kierkegaard, Wittgenstein, and Weil on Desirable Faith.
- Authors
Knox, Jennifer
- Abstract
In this book, Kroesbergen discuss "faith envy" which he defines as people 'want[ing] the certainty and trust that faith provides for believers, but they are somewhat unsure about whether they want the object - faith - that gives this security' (p. 3). I Faith Envy i looks at each thinker in turn, commenting on how their lives informed their views on faith and their faith envy, before looking at how the idea of "faith envy" problematises faith and what the "absolute safety" of faith looks like. Wittgenstein thinks about religion frequently but does not consider himself a religious man, Kroesbergen concludes this if because of faith envy.
