- Abstract
The article presents a reprint of the chapter "On the Trail of the Iron Horse," from the book "A Light in the Prairie: Temple Emanu-el of Dallas 1872-1997." It highlights the success of the dry goods warehouse of Alexander Simon, the firs Jew to settle in Dallas, Texas. Simon was profiled as one of the Jews in Europe who emigrated in the U.S. to seek better opportunities. It explores the obstacles encountered by Simon because his warehouse has been destructed during the Civil War and by fire accidents.
