- Abstract
The article focuses on Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin, and how his socially changing civic services had modernized the Los Angeles, California Jewry. It explores the speech that Magnin presented at the mass meeting of the High Holy Day Services in Los Angeles, California in 1919, and the social impact of his later discussions about Americanization, Zionism, women empowerment and Jewish religion practices in the modern setting. It notes his contribution to the construction of the Jewish synagogue B'nai B'rith Temple, as well as his legacy in collaboration with Maxwell Dubin in revolutionizing the religious education of the Jewish people.
