- Abstract
The cover of Women's Health magazine of July/August 2020 featuring the Portuguese influencer Helena Coelho was shared on social media, and obtained attention from the media It was inclusively approached in an episode of the radio programme Extremamente Desagradável (2020). Hence, considering the strengthening of transmedia dynamics, i.e., the navigation of the contents beyond its publishing medium with their specific dynamics on different spaces, this research work has sought to comprehend which meanings and discourses both the cover and the episode have produced, and produce, and discuss them in a critical way. This work carries out an exploratory study in nature, therefore, it was made use of the social semiotics analysis for the cover, and the Critical Discourse Analysis for the episode about the cover, with an intersectional approach. Among the results, there is the key point of the cover on Helena Coelho, exhibiting an athletic physical appearance along with a cheerful and confident facial feedback, reinforced by the accompanying headlines. Also, the episode shows evidence of objectifying and self-objectifying trends, and its privilege related to her celebrity status. Finally, another aspect found was the delegitimization engendered by the humour towards the influencer's cover, and what is said and unspoken about it.
