- Abstract
The academic essay examines the political and social turbulence in France after Emmanuel Macron's re-election in May 2022. Macron faces challenges as his party did not achieve an absolute majority in the parliamentary elections, and he must navigate between different political factions to implement his policies. Macron's pension reform led to weeks of strikes and mass demonstrations across the country. The political and social turbulence raises questions about the causes, Macron's responsibility, and the government's ability to act. The government relies on tools such as Article 49.3 of the constitution to pass laws by decree or bypass parliamentary opposition. There are also social conflicts, such as the Yellow Vest protests, pension reform protests, and violent riots in suburban areas. The misery in these suburbs is a structural problem that has repeatedly led to outbreaks of violence for 40 years. President Macron has introduced various programs to improve educational opportunities in these troubled neighborhoods, but they have not been sufficient. Macron has announced his intention to change his governing style and involve more parties, associations, and the economy in decision-making.
