- Abstract
Colima has scarce knowledge of mites, in particular, the group of oribatids that inhabit caves and wells. For this reason, in December 2017, the Pozo La Escondida was explored, descending 30 meters, from which moss and soil samples were taken. Subsequently, in the Laboratory of Ecology and Systematics of Microarthropods of the Faculty of Sciences, UNAM, these samples were processed using Berlese-Tullgren funnels to extract oribatid mites; once separated, these were introduced into lactic acid inside porcelain capsules, and placed inside an oven at a temperature of 45 °C, for about a week, until they were cleared. The identification of 22 species was achieved, of which 20 are new records for the locality and the State. Species such as Fosseremus sp., Nanhermnnia sp., Tectocepheus sp., Reticulocepheus sp., and Scheloribates sp. registered in the Pozo La Escondida have also been reported in other caves in Mexico, which may indicate that they have a wide distribution.
