NORDSTROM IN 2003: EMBARKING ON ITS SECOND CENTURY OF BUSINESS.
- Abstract
The article reports on the success and challenges faced by Bruce Nordstrom and his company, Nordstrom Department Stores, in the U.S. It states that Bruce, chairman and former chief executive officer (CEO), had an interesting tenure with the company. He performs well and the company is four times the size after his father, Everett, left its management. The firm faces its most trying time including its battle with volatile stock performance, comparable store sales and performance below both S&P 500 and S&P Retail indices. According to the company, it had not been able to keep up with changing needs of customers. Moreover, it cites that the company's strategy is to expand rapidly its number of stores, which resulted in greater concentration of stores in the northwest part of the country.
