- Abstract
The article discusses cultural relations between New Spain and Portugal during the spread of Christianity in Asia and America during the 17th century, based on observations from books bought by Manuel Fernandez de Santa Cruz, Bishop of Puebla, Mexico. Topics discussed include the development of fields including philosophy, theology, and religious law in Portugal during this time, the international cultural exchange resulting from the spread of religious missions during this time, and the cultural context of the life and work of Bishop Manuel Fernandez de Santa Cruz.
