- Authors
Robinson, Lisa A.
- Abstract
The article presents a commentary on W. Kip Viscusi's paper "The Devaluation of Life." Viscusi describes the basis for the estimates used by federal agencies and summarizes proposed legislation that politicizes the process for establishing them. It relates that the importance of the estimates is shown by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) data. It explains the concept of the value per statistical life (VSL) and the reason behind the controversy surrounding it.
