- Abstract
This article discusses the early influence of Michel Foucault's work on classical antiquity, particularly his lectures and writings from the 1970s. It highlights Foucault's visits to the University at Buffalo during this time and the courses he taught on various topics such as Nietzsche, Sade, Balzac, and ancient Greek literature. The article also mentions Foucault's election to the Collège de France and his visit to the New York Correctional Facility in Attica. It concludes by mentioning the later engagement with Foucault's work in the pages of Arethusa, a journal focused on classical studies.
