- Abstract
The article discusses the European Union's (EU's) laws regarding privacy rights involving genomic databases and biobanking as of 2016, and it mentions the efforts to harmonize the laws of EU Member States in order to create a single market. The Council of Europe is addressed, along with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in the EU. Law reform efforts in the EU are examined, as well as informed consent, data protection laws, and legal judgments by EU courts.
