The article discusses the legal issues related to the employment classification of transportation network companies (TNC) drivers, particularly why their classification as independent contractors does not retain their work flexibility as touted by TNCs. Other topics include the history of the independent contractor exemption to labor and employment laws in the U.S. and the remedial intent of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
