The article focuses on hopper design principles and offers guidance to avoid common solids-handling issues such as erratic flow and no flow. Designing equipment without considering the actual bulk materials being handled leads to flow difficulties. The flow behavior of the material can be predicted however by measuring the flow properties of a bulk solid. In this way, more reliable hoppers and bins can be designed and manufactured.
