- Abstract
The article presents criticism of the historical film "Russian Ark," directed by Alexander Sokurov, interpreting the film's representation of Russian history using theories about the role of nationalism, nostalgia, and propaganda in historical films. The author argues that the film's presentation of Russian history is arbitrary and selective and discusses elements of fantasy and imagination in the film. Possible Russian government involvement in producing the film is discussed.
