- Title
Intracellular proteolysis of kininogen by malaria parasites promotes release of active kinins.
- Abstract
The article presents research on the intracellular proteolysis of plasma kininogen by Plasmodium parasites that caused malaria using mass spectrometry. It mentions that as the parasite process kininogen, it releases vasoactive kinins that can mediate haemodynamic alterations during acute malaria. It notes that the peptides released by the parasite can elicit an increase in intracellular calcium. It also emphasizes that such effect can be suppressed by specific receptor antagonists.
