- Abstract
The article focuses on the Institute of Certified Financial Planners' Retreat 1997, which took place in Hershey, Pennsylvania. At the Retreat, one of the exhibitors was an oil company, a sponsor of oil and gas drilling ventures. There were times that the wholesaler looked a little lonely standing by his booth with no one to talk to. There are many planners who do not want to hear about oil and gas partnerships. The consumer of financial services in the 21st century will, to a greater extent than today, be more informed, have greater choices, have more competitive options and will expect more of the planners. Clients have the right to believe that the financial planner they are dealing with today is smarter than the one with whom they would have dealt one must travel, network, confer, observe and learn. If clients want capital to grow in liquid form, equities are the vehicle, and risk and reward are key elements. When it comes to financial planning and investment ideas, clients expect us to do the heavy lifting and the deep thinking in the fast-paced global economy of today and tomorrow.
