- Abstract
The 27th Archival Science Colloquium in Marburg in August 2023 focused on the dialogue between archivists and historians. In her opening lecture, Petra Gehring from TU Darmstadt emphasized the interfaces between the two fields and the need for greater openness in historical research. The discussion revolved around how digitization is changing the work of historians and the new methods and requirements that come with it. The archival information systems need to be improved to meet the needs of the scientific community. The challenges of electronic record-keeping and the quality of e-records as historical sources were also discussed. Archive user environments need to adapt to these challenges and open up to interoperable standards and a decentralized data space. Source criticism needs to be transferred to the digital era, and the historical research community should be vigilant against digital historical falsifications. The vision of NFDI4Memory is to link all sources with all results in a trustworthy manner and to distinguish provable conclusions from assumptions.
