- Abstract
The ekz Group has redistributed its responsibilities, with Lisa Pohl taking over the department of "Editorial and Data Management" as the Library Director of ekz. Thomas Falk will also take on the department of "Communication and Marketing" in addition to leading the Media Sales department. UNESCO held a global meeting of education ministers to explore the opportunities, challenges, and risks of AI applications for education systems. The W3C has released the latest version of EPUB (EPUB 3.3) as an international web standard. The EPUB 3.3 version is backward compatible with the previous version, EPUB 3.2, and does not require any changes to current publishing workflows. The accessibility of EPUB publications has been considered an important goal, and the accessibility specification has been updated. The W3C plans to continue maintaining the EPUB specification and establish a dedicated working group for maintenance. UKRI's new Open Access Policy will apply to monographs, book chapters, and edited volumes starting from January 1, 2024. UKRI has published guidelines to support researchers and research institutions in complying with the policy. A special fund will be established to support the costs of open access publications. Currently, UKRI funds can be used for the costs of publishing research articles in hybrid journals, but starting from December 31, 2024, they can no longer be used for publications in transformative journals.
