- Abstract
In this article the author discusses measures undertaken by the Los Angeles, California, City Council and a variety of community and national organizations to make banks that receive taxpayer funds be more responsive to the needs of people. The proposal comes at a time of significant economic austerity in city and state budgets. A number of organizations are engaged in the promotion of the banking measures including People Improving Communities through Organizing, the Service Employees International Union, and National People's Action.
