- Authors
Snodgrass, W. D.
- Abstract
This article offers poetry criticism of the poem "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking" by Walt Whitman. It focuses on the poem's use of rhythm in light of the poet's history of abandoning the patterns of traditional English poetry. The poem's themes of isolation, abandonment, and the loss of love are emphasized, as well as the influence of the syllable counts of folk songs and ballads on poetry.
