- Abstract
The article presents a school activity involving Langston Hughes' poems "Dream Deferred," "I, Too, Sing America" and "Let America be America Again." According to a sixth grade language arts teacher, the poet talks about dreams and the poems were accessible. The teacher highlights several factors in order to support an interpretation and careful reading of the poet such as his use of metaphor. For the activity, the teacher asked the students to take a word, or a line, or an image from one of these poems and write their own poems.
